(New York, NY) June 7, 2022 – PRESENT, the inaugural prideART New York group show curated by nonbinary New York City photographer and conceptual artist Eva Mueller, features the innovative work of 35 queer artists from Berlin and New York, including performances, artist talks, special events … and a talking glory hole.
The works presented include paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, videos, sound installations, and sculptures–from queer abstraction to the homoerotic–reflecting the diversity of queer identities across the spectrums of age, race, gender, orientation and the respective cultural perspectives that shapes their art.
Among the artists exhibiting are photographic artist Meryl Meisler, known for her “Disco Era Bushwick” series and books, Thai trans artist Nunnapat “Spencer” Ratanavanh, Warren Bradley who just had a solo show at Soho Project Space, “post-conceptualist” photographer Lucien Samaha, New York City painter Gio Black Peter, We Are All Pink Inside by feminist performance artist Christen Clifford, queer abstract reductivist painter, curator and gallerist Christopher Stout, and muralist and scenic painter Vicki Khuzami. The show also includes Gayuernica, a 195-inch mixed media mural informed by the AIDS crisis by queer Cuban-American artist and DMAC Artist Director, Michelangelo Alasa (Confessions of a Cuban Sex Addict).
And that glory hole? New York City composer and producer Man Parrish, who has previously created soundscapes at MoMa, will create a sound installation divulging an oral history of sex in subway bathrooms accompanied by a notated map. Projected at low volume, listeners will be required to squat on a small stool in front of the glory hole in order to hear the stores.

PRESENT – prideART New York Group Show takes place June 16-25 at DMAC, at 62 East 4th Street. DMAC operates as a space for artistry and innovation, housing new work in dance, visual art, film, theater and music. Built in 1889, and instantly recognizable for its caged cylindrical fire-escape, the building has housed a restaurant, meeting hall for various labor unions and a gay cinema. Francis Ford Coppola shot the opera scene for Godfather II in the theater, which was also where Divine rehearsed his 1975 play, Women Behind Bars. •
About the Curator:
Eva Mueller is a non-binary New York-based photographer and conceptual artist. They studied graphic fashion and portrait photography at the International Center of Photography and Parsons School of Design in New York. After a career as a fashion and music photographer, Mueller shifted their focus to fine art and portraiture. Most of Mueller’s work takes a deeper look at our human existence’s core constructs, such as gender identity, race, and sexuality. They work in photography, video, and installation. Four of their works are included in the “It’s A Queer, Queer, Queer World!“ show at Soho Project Space, June 8-25. Eva will return to the space July 13-24 to present their solo show, Flowers & Chocolate.

prideArt, founded in Berlin in early 2022, is all-inclusive non-profit collective and incubator of international LGBTQ+ artists who live and work full or part-time in Berlin founded in February 2022 by painter Lars Deike.
